Aesculus hippocastanum is a large deciduous tree growing to 30m x 15m at a fast rate.
It is hardy and is not frost tender. It is in flower in May, and the seeds ripen in September. Grows well in most well-drained soils full sun or semi-shade. The Horse Chestnut can tolerate strong winds but not maritime exposure.
It can also tolerate atmospheric pollution.
