Betula platyphilla japonica
Betula platyphilla japonica has fine, arching branches with pendulous, silvery-green foliage made up of diamond-shaped leaves which turn golden in autumn before falling. In cooler climates it creates the most spectacular display in autumn.
Its fruit are catkins and it has a benign root system that makes it ideal for lawns.
Prefers a well drained acid to neutral soil and requires watering in dry conditions.
Growing at a fast rate to 20m x 12m it makes a splendid and large windbreak.
