Persea americana (A) - Reed Avocado
A large round fruit up to 10cm across, with lightly dimpled green skin.
Matures: November - May.
Pollination: Type A - Self fertile, however will benefit with cross pollination from Bacon, Edranol or Fuerte varieties. Pollinated by bees. Pollination will be adversely affected if Spring temperatures are below 10 at night and below 20 during the day.
Growing Regions: Must be frost free (Type A varieties are more cold tolerant than Type B). Avocadoes are prone to root rot, so require well-drained soils but also need irrigation in dry months.
Size: Can grow to 6m, but should be pruned after harvest to keep at 3m. A more upright tree than other varieties.
