Platanus acerifolia is a large deciduous round headed tree with a moderate growth rate to 30m. It has large leaves mid to dark green turning yellow to brown in autumn.

It adapts to most soils, but prefers a well drained fertile soil in full sun. Copes with wind but not salt and has a reasonable tolerance to a range of conditions including high atmospheric pollution.
